Our Mission

Parkside Homes will provide a high quality of life to aging adults at all levels of our Christian Retirement Community through compassionate, resident-centered care and services that allow for dignity and growth.

Our History

Parkside Homes, Inc. was organized in 1960 to provide a home for those who desired to retire in a stimulating Christian environment.  It is situated in a quiet area on the south edge of Hillsboro, KS in Marion County.  Parkside overlooks a nine-hole golf course, is adjacent to Hillsboro Community Medical Center and near Memorial Park.

Originally established as a not-for-profit church related organization, Parkside Homes continues to provide modern and congenial living quarters for the community's older citizens.  The various types of accommodations have encouraged a blend of community, privacy, and independence.

The three dimensions of living offered at Parkside Homes were unique at the time it opened in 1962.  Bedroom-sitting room units in the central building were ideally suited for those who did not wish to do their own housekeeping, were self-care, and who wanted to take their meals in the central dining area.  Eight two-bedroom apartments, each with its own carport and storage, provided independent living for those enjoying the freedom of a private home.  Ten one-bedroom apartments provided basic facilities for independent living with a minimum of housekeeping.

Due to increased demand, four additional two-bedroom apartments were built, offering the same conveniences, and were ready for occupancy in 1968.  This brought our total number of apartments to 22 units.

Upon residents' requests and need for nursing care, in 1974 a part of Parkside Homes became licensed as an Intermediate Care Facility.  At the time, eighteen private rooms were added to the central unit.  The original sixteen rooms were made into semi-private rooms for a license of fifty beds.

In 1985, the kitchen was remodeled and the dining/activity room enlarged the latter being named the Oscar Hett Fellowship Center after a long-time resident and donation from him.  Three one-bedroom apartments were remodeled to allow for a family dining room, new entrance, lobby, and office space.  More remodeling and two new wings were built in 1988; making Parkside Homes, Inc. a sixty-bed licensed nursing facility, with seven one-bedroom apartments, and twelve two-bedroom apartments.

Both apartment and nursing facility residents may receive social and mental health services, activities, restorative services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech/audiology therapy.  Apartment residents may enjoy meals in the main dining room if they choose, and also have available housekeeping and home health care services.

In 1994, Parkside purchased 14 additional acres for the purpose of developing Park Village, which consists of independent living units.  The first duplex unit opened in August of 1995, with more units built as needed.  A congregate building with 39 units was available to residents in December of 1996.  In March, 2000, assisted living services were offered so that residents could “Age in Place’ and remain independent as much as possible.
